Teaching Series: The Spiritual Life of Jesus

THE TWO MOST PRESSING QUESTIONS FACING RELIGION TODAY

There are two pressing issues facing religion today that are largely going unanswered:

  • Why is religion so often on the wrong side of the most important issues facing the world?

  • And how can we cultivate a spirituality that brings goodness, compassion, and repair to a troubled world without becoming religious hypocrites?

But these aren’t just the most pressing questions facing religion today, they are exactly the questions Jesus addressed in his teaching. He taught that it is not only possible, but imperative that humans learn to develop a spirituality that repairs ourselves and our world.

Contrary to popular tradition, Jesus’ spirituality has nothing to do with heaven or hell, converting to the right religion, conforming to the right set of beliefs or doctrines, or experiencing miracles. In fact, the spirituality that Jesus taught comes naturally to everyone, whether they are religious or not — as natural as learning to ride a bike or speak a language. We are hard-wired to be spiritual beings who naturally produce goodness in ourselves and our world.

But, like all good and natural things, it must be cultivated so we can be continuously nourished and sustained.

Jesus taught his students how to do this. In fact, it was his own practice of spirituality. Join us for our new 10-week teaching series, “The Spiritual Life of Jesus”, beginning Sunday, Jan 21st at 10 AM to learn how to leave behind the heavy burden of religious control and experience the this life for yourself.
