Volunteers Urgently Needed for Asylum Seekers in Oceanside
UPDATE: Services for incoming asylum seekers have been taken over by the County of San Diego. We are no longer enlisting volunteers for this effort. Thank you to all those who helped so diligently!
As many of you might know, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has been dropping of asylum seekers at the Oceanside Transit Center since last Wednesday. Since then, OSC has been participating in a coordinated effort alongside the City of Oceanside and other nonprofit organizations, with Interfaith Community Services taking the lead.
We are desperately looking for volunteers to help migrants find temporary shelter, food, clothing, hygiene products, and rides to the airport to go to their host families.
This is truly an hour-by-hour situation. The main effort is to help these asylum seekers get to their sponsor homes as soon as possible and help them navigate that journey while also providing food, hygiene products, temporary shelter (if they weren't able to figure out transportation), as well as other basic needs.
