Hello OSC friends,
I can't tell you how excited I am about next Tuesday night.
Last summer, in the wake of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd's murders, our church lamented.
Last fall, we formed a learning group to read about how racism is deeply and systemically embedded in our culture and institutions.
Last winter, we came together as a church to make anti-racism and racial healing a stated priority in our latest Mission Commitment.
Last January our first ever Anti-Racism Team was formed, as half-a-dozen of your fellow congregants came together to form something tangible that might lead to real change, beginning with us.
Last spring, this team beta-tested a new anti-racism group process together. We gave feedback, we made changes.
But now the time has come to walk into this commitment in a deeply personal way.
Next Tuesday night at 6:30 PM on Zoom, all that effort becomes a reality as we launch our first ever, home-grown, 6-week anti-racism learning group, No Greater Love: Learning Anti-Racist Relationships.
If you care about overcoming racism in our country, in our city, and in ourselves, I encourage you to join this 6-week group today.
Rev. Jason Coker
Lead Pastor
PS: I know the idea of participating in an anti-racism group can be intimidating. But I promise you two things: 1) Like everything else at OSC, we have worked hard to create a space of grace, and 2) The cost of confronting racism, even in ourselves, is far less than the cost of ignoring it.
