Why would anyone still choose church?
With the extreme polarization of our society leading up to the 2020 national elections, you’ve probably noticed there is a growing disillusionment with religion in America. More and more people see church as the source of the problem, not the solution to our problems.
In fact, the single fastest growing religious group — and, since last year, now nearly the largest — in America are those who do not identify with any religious group.
According to newly released General Social Survey data analyzed by Ryan P. Burge of Eastern Illinois University, Americans claiming "no religion” — sometimes referred to as “nones” because of how they answer the question “what is your religious tradition?” — now represent about 23.1 percent of the population, up from 21.6 percent in 2016.
For our next teaching series, starting Sunday, September 28th, we will ask the question, “Why Church?” Given the pervasive religious disillusionment of our time, how can we still ask people to choose church? Join Pastor Jason every Sunday morning for the next 7 weeks as we look into ancient texts and modern shift to explore answers to that question.
