We’ve learned a great deal together over the past eight weeks from scripture about the Art of Community: the priority of connecting with God’s transformational presence, how God liberates us from fear to embrace our differences, and how a community of difference empowered by the Spirit acts in genuine caring and loving ways. This is just the kind of community we hope to build at The Oceanside Sanctuary!
Congregation Approves New Co-Minister, Board Members, & Budget
Last Sunday at the annual congregational meeting, the members present (in-person and online) unanimously voted to approve the proposed FY 2022-2023 budget and Board slate. It has been an exceptionally good year at OSC and we want to share the decisions we made together and invite you to celebrate with us.
The Sanctuary Band Continues To Grow!
Since joining OSC as your Music Minister, I have worked hard to build a diverse, supportive, and talented group of folks in the Oceanside Sanctuary Music Ministry. You have entrusted me not only to facilitate worship, but also to foster a community of musicians and singers who come together for spiritual and musical growth.
Join Kyle Ingram for the Pride 5k
Kyle Ingram, OSC congregant and member of the Queer Committee, is inviting all who are interested to join him and a small team of runners on the San Diego Pride 5k Run/Walk on June16th. Kyle writes: Personally, I have always been moved by the event proceeds which largely go to Sunburst Youth Housing Project. Of the many programs offered by the San Diego LGBT Community Center, this initiative was created to provide safe and supportive housing for San Diego’s homeless youth
Become a supporting member of The Oceanside Sanctuary
June marks the end of our fiscal year, which means it’s time for our annual membership drive! As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we can only operate by the generosity of our supporters. So just like your favorite public radio station, once a year we invite you to become a supporting member of OSC.
The Disciples' Resolution on Gun Violence
In his sermon on May 29th, 2022, in the wake of the Buffalo, Laguna Woods, and Uvalde shootings, Pastor Jason Coker shared about GA-1521, The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 2015 General Assembly resolution on gun violence. That resolution is copied below in its entirety. Our hope is that this will serve as a starting point for a dialogue within OSC on ways we can begin to proactively undo a culture of violence in America. Please read it and offer any comments below.
Learning the Art of Community
There is so much going on I need to share with you! But I don’t want us to miss the spirit of what is happening in our congregation right now, so stick with me. In my sermon last Sunday I argued that Christ’s ascension in Acts Chapter 1 was necessary. Jesus knew that if he remained, his followers would never grow up and learn to be empowered, themselves, by the Spirit of God. Specifically, he said…
Help needed for Ukrainian refugee family
Today I have an important and urgent request! One of our OSC families has been matched with a refugee family from Kyiv, Ukraine. They have committed to providing them with a home for the next six months. This young Ukrainian family (husband, wife, and toddler) came to the U.S. with just a suitcase and a stroller. They have received clothing and personal care products already
It's time for our mid-term Mission Commitment assessment
Believe it or not, at the end of June we will reach the halfway point of our current 3-year Mission Commitment. We are asking for your feedback on the brief survey below. Please take a few minutes to fill it out by May 15th. Your feedback will be used to shape our budget and ministry plans for the new fiscal year, starting July 1st.
Learning To Share Leadership On The Road From Easter To Pentecost
Easter weekend at OSC was special in more ways than one. It was our first ever hybrid (both online & in-person) Easter gathering, and our first in-person Easter service since 2019! Altogether we estimate roughly 200 people (94 in person & 102 online) worshipped together from at least 4 counties — San Diego, Orange, Riverside, and Ventura Counties.
